Esperanza is a young girl who lives in Guatemala with her family. Her grandmother (Abuela) is famous in the village for weaving beautiful tapestries (tapices) on her loom. Each tapestry tells a story — flowers, birds, mountains, and the life of their family. Esperanza wants to learn to weave like her grandmother, but it is very hard. She tries again and again, but her threads tangle and her designs don't look right. She feels frustrated and wants to give up. Abuela encourages her and tells her to be patient — every weaver makes mistakes at first. Esperanza keeps practicing. Little by little, her weaving gets better. By the end, Esperanza creates her own small tapestry. Abuela is proud, and Esperanza feels proud too — she has learned something important from her grandmother.

Esperanza es una niña que vive en Guatemala con su familia. Su abuela es famosa en el pueblo por tejer hermosos tapices en su telar.
